title involving lesbians [COMPLETE]
WHO: Kiden (timestopping) and Laura (wristcutting), surely you know this by now.
WHERE: Some big empty car park outside of the city.
WHEN: December 7th.
WARNINGS: Same as the summary, I suppose.
SUMMARY: Aaaaangst and then fighting Kiden smashing Laura's skull in. Plus making out.

Kiden was on her feet as soon as she got the message from Logan. She kept the directions up on her comm as she threw herself into No Time, not bothering to grab a jacket, not even checking she had her keys on her. Logan had said she wasn't going to be there for long—shit, she might have left the spot already—and Kiden wasn't surprised she hadn't found her when she scoured around last time. Laura was way outside of the city perimeters.

And so Kiden ran, everyone slowed down to statues all around her. She ran between the rows of traffic, across the park and through the shopping district, and then back three blocks when she missed her turning. That was thing thing about No Time. She didn't get tired. Outside of it, a couple of seconds had passed, if that. If she'd gone for four mouths without eating or sleeping, Kiden figured she could keep running forever.

When the buildings gradually became further and further apart, and she no longer recognised the street names, Kiden stopped. She was no more than half a mile from her destination, yet suddenly she stopped. Why was she even running? Laura had left because she wanted to. Nobody had forced her. Kiden didn't know what she was trying to achieve—it hardly seemed fair for her to drag Laura back, when she clearly didn't want to be there.

Kiden dug her hands into her pockets, and kept walking, despite herself. She was only going there to talk, she reminded herself. To ask Laura why she'd left in the middle of the night without a goddamn word.

She walked the rest of the way—it didn't matter, she figured. It probably wouldn't have made more than half a minute's difference, outside of No Time. She'd spent the last couple of days—weeks, really—looking all over for Laura, and then shouted out all over the boards that Laura had gone, hoping somebody knew something, and yet she wasn't even sure she wanted to see Laura.

Kicking an empty coke can as she made her way across the parking lot, Kiden laughed under her breath. Of course she did. She was just scared. Scared that Laura wouldn't even talk to her.

The flames from the trash can were slowed with the rest of time, and Kiden could see her, standing with her face towards the fire. Laura was still there—Kiden could stop worrying about that much, at least. She made her way towards her, and stood beside her.

Kiden looked at her, and she didn't like it at all. Laura being here, out in the cold, when she had some place warm to stay. Somebody around who wanted her there. Reaching out gently, Kiden brushed the tip of her finger against the back of Laura's hand, and fell back into the time stream she ought to have been in.

“Hey,” she said, and tried to smile.

[OOC: June, baby, I'm not sure why this got so TL;DR. But tell me what I've done wrong, and I'll fix it.]

Laura had watched Weapon X leave. When he was out of sight, she turned back towards the fire; her coat lay discarded nearby. She was going to pick it up and leave, but she did not get to make a single step before Kiden was there. Laura had not been able to detect her presence at all. Like when Kiden left and her scent had lead nowhere. It was infuriating.

Laura knew Weapon X would tell her. Laura knew she would come. Kiden was stubborn. Kiden did not let go, even when she ought to.

Laura expected this. But her body tensed up, regardless.

She looked at Kiden for a single moment. Face blank. Eyes sharp. Kiden's attempt at a smile made her tongue stick to the roof of her mouth. Infuriating.

And she walked past her, fully intending to leave.
Kiden: srsly// no srsly guystimestopping on December 8th, 2008 08:06 pm (UTC)
Laura said nothing, and Kiden wasn't surprised—a little annoyed, maybe, but definitely not surprised. She walked right past her. Didn't even look at her for very long. Kiden's initial plan had been to keep jumping in and out of No Time, so that she was in front of Laura with every step she took, but instead she crouched and picked up Laura's coat.

“Yeah, it's not so bad,” Kiden said, hanging the coat over her arm. “Lots of space. It's pretty quiet too—and, wow, a fire place. The apartment doesn't have one of those. Not so sure it keeps out as much rain, though. Was the apartment really that bad?”

She walked up to Laura, but not close enough to be able to reach out to her. Not close enough to push her away faster.

Kiden tilted her head. “Do I even get a explanation?”
Laura Kinney.wristcutting on December 8th, 2008 08:35 pm (UTC)
Laura should have not stopped then. Because once she did, it was obvious she would listen to everything Kiden had to say - which, she did not doubt, was more than plenty. And Laura did not want to hear it, she could not hear it, because she knew Kiden wasn't going to accept the situation and shrug it off and let it go. Not before she, at the very least, bombarded Laura with her off-the-wall logic and her senseless talking until guilt was gnawing away at her resolve.

She was completely aware of this, but that was not enough to keep her from stopping dead in her tracks.

Because Kiden wanted an explanation, and Laura owed her that much.

"I could not stay with you, so I left."
Kiden: tsk// srslytimestopping on December 8th, 2008 08:40 pm (UTC)
She'd got Laura talking. As difficult as she thought that was going to be, she hadn't even gotten close to the hard part yet—dealing with why had Laura left. And since she was apparently willing to talk, Kiden was going to take full advantage of that.

“Alright—do you want to tell me why you couldn't stay?” Kiden asked. “I mean, what did I do?”
Laura Kinney.wristcutting on December 8th, 2008 09:29 pm (UTC)
"I was putting you in danger."

Her tongue felt heavy. This was already going on longer than she would have liked. But there was no change in her tone as she spoke, still.

"It was for your sake. If you can understand that, leave."
Kiden: i have an idea!// amazinglytimestopping on December 8th, 2008 09:38 pm (UTC)
“Heh. You've been putting me in danger since before I crashed that motel room and found a dead John at the end of your bed, Laura,” Kiden said dryly. “So what's changed now?”

Kiden didn't need to tell Laura that she wasn't going to leave; she was fairly certain that Laura at least knew her that well.
Laura Kinney.: can't.wristcutting on December 8th, 2008 09:49 pm (UTC)
Laura was still not facing Kiden, and not having to look at her was the sole tolerable point in this; she could allow herself to take a breath before she answered. Kiden's words were maddening, and not in the way Laura had predicted they would be.

"If I stayed with you, you would have died."
Kiden: angry// most likely pmstimestopping on December 8th, 2008 09:56 pm (UTC)
Eventually, yeah,” Kiden agreed.

She moved around so that she was facing Laura and folded her arms, as if she could really act as some sort of road block. Kiden knew she couldn't stop Laura from leaving, but maybe if she could look at her she'd be able to make some sense of this all.

“Laura, I don't get what you're saying. It sounds like a load of bullshit excuses to me, so either start from the beginning, or have the guts to say that you're bored of hanging around with me.”
Laura Kinney.wristcutting on December 8th, 2008 10:16 pm (UTC)
"No," Laura said, and her voice was harsh. She could not stand that Kiden was in front of her, but she would not avert her gaze. She was not that weak. She would not let herself be that weak. And she looked at her, Laura's eyes wide and dark against that veil of determined ignorance that covered Kiden's own; she did not want to start from the beginning, she did not want to tell Kiden, she did not want to talk at all because there was a barrier in her throat that her words had to push against in order to leave her mouth. Too many words. Clogging up.

"My mother," she uttered, finally.
Kiden: sad// shit suckstimestopping on December 8th, 2008 10:34 pm (UTC)
“Oh,” Kiden said quietly, and then wished she hadn't said anything in the first place. “But you didn't mean to—it was an accident, right?”

She found it hard to look at Laura. She didn't know why, but she knew that there was something deeper to all of this. Something more than she'd been able to comprehend thus far. Kiden glanced to the side, trying to calm down a little. She flexed her fingers and tugged at at the hem of shirt to distract herself. Taking a deep breath, she moved to look back at Laura, but something caught her eye.

It made her feel sick, right to the pit of her stomach. She tried to say something, and found that she could only shake her head. And now her eyes—now they were watering. She wiped them, only to find that her fingers were trembling. She'd told herself over and over that she was only here to talk to Laura, but this changed everything. She'd seen it before, of course, but pushed it to the back of her mind. Convinced herself it was a one off.

Kiden slipped her fingers around the back of Laura's wrist, and pulled her arm towards her.

“Why would you do this to yourself, Laura?” she asked, having trouble finding her voice.
Laura Kinney.wristcutting on December 8th, 2008 11:06 pm (UTC)
Following the direction of Kiden's gaze, Laura's eyes dropped to the scars on her arm, forming a perfectly neat row of faded red crosses; she looked at them for a few moments, as if trying to see what about them had caused Kiden to act this way, before pulling her arm away and letting it back to the side of her body.

"Not just her."
Kiden: baww// that was my favourite dumpster gdtimestopping on December 8th, 2008 11:10 pm (UTC)
Laura shrugged it off, didn't even give her an answer. She didn't seem to care. Kiden wanted to shake her, to shout at her, to do something to let her know how she felt. To let her know that what she doing wasn't alright.

But she knew there was no point. Laura was determined to leave, and Kiden wasn't going to be able to changer her mind unless she knew everything.

“Who else?” Kiden asked, wiping her eyes with the heel of her palm. She blinked hard, not about to start crying already. “And I know it wasn't your fault. So just tell me what happened.”
Laura Kinney.wristcutting on December 8th, 2008 11:43 pm (UTC)
"I killed my mother. I killed my sensei. Megan and Debbie nearly died because of me. All of it was my fault."

Kiden was wrong. That blind trust she seemed to have in Laura was entirely out of place, and she deserved nothing less than someone believing in her innocence. Had she told Kiden about the people she's killed - hundred and hundreds, in every place and way possible - would Kiden still think the same way?

Perhaps she should tell her. Perhaps then Kiden would let go.

She could.

It if was needed.

"That is why I am telling you to leave me be."

Laura,” Kiden said through grit teeth, no longer feeling as if she was about to cry. Laura kept repeating the same thing over and over, as if that was enough for Kiden, as if she could somehow understand it all. “You go out every fucking day and half of the night to make sure the streets are safe. You're not as bad as you think you are! Just, please, tell me why, tell me how it happened.”

She was angry now. Angry enough to curl her hands into fist and raise them, needing something to hit—but there was nothing around but Laura. She kicked the ground, and then screamed right in Laura's face.

“I'm not leaving you anywhere! Don't you get that?”

At that moment, Laura wanted nothing more than to scream right back at Kiden, to tell her she was stupid, that she was going to get herself killed and that Laura could not let that happen, could she not understand-- but she knew that would lead nowhere, solve nothing, and so she regained as much of her composure as she could and answered, slowly and quietly.

"The Trigger scent. I told you before. They used it on me for targets I couldn't be trusted to kill. That included my sensei and my mother.

"There is Kimura. She was created by the Facility to counter me. I cannot kill her. She had tried to kill Debbie and Megan when I lived with them. But they escaped and made it alive, barely. They are my aunt and my cousin."

The flow of her speech did not cut off once when she spoke - no unnecessary pauses, no hesitating - and it was as if she was citing it all from memory; it was only when she finished talking that Laura realized how tired she felt, and noticed the weakness in her knees.

"If Kimura --" and there, her voice wasn't so certain anymore - "if anyone from the Facility arrives here, you will be killed. If not by Kimura's hands, then my own."
