I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV
WHO: Curtis Doyle, Gerry Drew, Hank McCoy and possibly more
WHERE: The lab at Avengers Mansion
WHEN: Friday Morning
WARNINGS: Possibly some blood.
SUMMARY: Curtis has come up with a plan he hopes will cure Gerry's condition so it's time to get some help from everyone's favorite mutant doctor and give it a shot.
FORMAT: Words!

Curtis is nervous. He's refusing to let it show but he's nervous. This is dealing with someone's life in a much more direct sense than he ever has before and he wants to get it right. Not bothering with his costume since he wants to save all his power for the task at hand, Curtis steps up to the Avengers Mansion and rings the bell.

"And here's hoping I'm not the last one to the party," Curtis mutters to himself, glancing around. Idly he wonders who else might be inside that mansion but quickly pushes those thoughts aside. There would be time to bother the Avenges later. For now he just wants to concentrate on helping Gerry.

Gerry was probably more worried than anybody. He had no idea what to expect, and no clue as to if it would even work. He wasn't looking forward to being hooked up to machines again, or put into stasis. He was used to the disappointment, and while he believed in Curtis' abilities, he didn't expect much, and wasn't going to get his hopes up.

Still, he made it to the lab, wearing only his civvies, since Curtis and Hank knew he he was already... Something he'd have to worry about later, but it's not like he could have done all this in his webs, right?

"Hey," He said nervously as he walked into the room, waving a little.
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: Oh hello!bluepurrymuffin on September 4th, 2011 06:54 am (UTC)
It was Hank who met them at the door. He's had a busy week getting ready for the beginning of school on Tuesday, but nonetheless he made the time to arrive early to prepare the equipment.

"Ah, good to see you two! I suppose this is our younger Spider-Man, then?" Oh but he was a student also, wasn't he? "...Mr. Drew, was it?"
Curtis Doyle || Freedom Ring: Curtis Ringfree_dumb_ring on September 4th, 2011 07:58 am (UTC)
Curtis just grinned at the greeting, letting Gerry and Hank do the talking while he took a look around. Taking in the details of the room, he nodded.

"Right! Perfect. Let me explain my plan," he declared. "It's a simple one really. See, first we take a little DNA from our Spider-bro here. Then I work my cosmic awesomeness to create a machine. Not just any machine, you see. I create one that will combine the materials provided by the brilliant Dr. McCoy here into fresh and healthy bone marrow specifically made for my good buddy Gerry," he explained, resisting the urge to provide theatrics and special effects. "Then our good doctor here performs a complete and total bone marrow transplant backed up by these powers of mine. And if all goes according to plan, you will be completely cured," he finished by pointing at Gerry a bit over-dramatically.

"How's it sound, team?"

Just then, there was a rap on the door before Spider-Man the Elder poked his head in, looking about until he spotted the three already present in the room. "Oh, hey! Sorry I'm late," he said, sauntering into the room. "There was a thing on Sixth Avenue ... all sorted out now."

He waved a hand at Curtis as he hopped up into a comfortable perch on the wall. "Don't mind me, I heard it all from the hallway."

Curtis looks over as the elder Spider-Man pops in. He takes a breath and prepares to repeat his plan but seems to deflate when Spidey says he heard it all.

"Well. That saves some time," he sighs. "So, if we're all ready to begin," he smiles and then points to Gerry. "You should start getting ready or something. Put on one of those paper get-ups or something. Dr. McCoy is the expert here on the Avengers Hospital Rules," he chuckles, looking to Hank.

AHHH WEEKEND FINALLY! Sorry for the delay
spiderfanboy on September 9th, 2011 02:52 pm (UTC)
Oh... Right... Beast might not have known that he was the other Spider-Man hanging around the City. He might have just assumed that Hank had already figured it out on his own, since he was a genius or something, and other people had figured it out, but if he really didn't know, or if he was just seeming surprised for Gerry's benefit, well, he was kind of grateful for it.

"Hey, Dr. McCoy," He waves a little. "Sorry I didn't really tell you sooner, but... You know." He shrugs. "I'm looking forward to school starting up again, though?" Because that should make everything okay, right?

He listened to Curtis as explained the procedure, sitting up on the table and trying to look casual, even though he was still feeling a bit nervous. Really, he was at home in labs and operating rooms by now, he'd spend more time in them than most other people have, but this was different. He didn't want to get excited or too hopeful, he didn't think that he could, but as far as he knew, Curtis' power could do just about anything.

He's about to ask a question, or complain about the comment about changing, or something, but thankfully Spider-Man enters the room, and the tension in the room, for Gerry at least, lessens substantially (and the fanboy goes up 200%). He tries to contain it though, just nodding to Spider-Man and trying to play it cool.

"Hey, this uh, this isn't going to take away the radiation, right?" Because he just thought of something important about this procedure... Something he might not like.
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: I'm quite sure.bluepurrymuffin on September 10th, 2011 05:01 pm (UTC)
"Oh, nothing to worry over, Mr. Drew. I take for granted that most of our imPort students are running around in a mask or a cape in their free time!" He really should've caught that one earlier, actually. It was a little embarrassing to miss it, but he supposed he hadn't much interacted with the younger Spider-Man, either.

He was perhaps a little focused more focused on his patient than the other two, unfortunately, but he certainly took note of everything they said. "As for the radiation, is there any possibility then that the structure of your mutation--well, perhaps not exactly 'mutation' actually--What I mean to ask is, are the source of your abilities at all similar to those of your iconic template?" He turned and gave Spider-Man a wave.

"Actually, I've been meaning to ask that one as well," Spidey said. He leaned forward in Gerry's direction, chin balanced on steepled fingers. "We're not related, but you have powers almost like mine. Not only that, but unless I mistake my guess, none of the powers that your mother has that I don't. If it's not too nosy to ask -- and if it is, I can clear out and let you talk to the Doc, no worries there -- how exactly did that go down?"
Curtis Doyle || Freedom Ring: Curtis Ringfree_dumb_ring on September 10th, 2011 11:53 pm (UTC)
Curtis pauses when asked that question. He looks up a moment before fishing a folded paper out of his back pocket. Notes apparently. Mumbling to himself as he reads, he eventually looks up and shrugs. "It shouldn't I mean I'm not planning on doing anything to the radiation," he says, folding the paper back up and putting it back into his pocket. He's a bit curious about Gerry's answer too so he goes quiet.

"It's okay!" He replied quickly before Spider-Man could leave. "I really don't mind telling you about it, but really, there's not a lot that I really get about it either." He sighs, taking a breath and trying to figure out how to start this, what's important for them to know, and maybe what he doesn't want them to know, but full disclosure seems to be best, since he's trusting his life to them.

"Since I don't think I've told Dr. McCoy, I'll just start from the beginning, quickly. So, uh, Spider-Woman was my mother." He pauses for a moment. "Not the one that's here, but the Avenger one, the one that you all know. Anyway, the reason that I'm sick at all is because of radiation exposure when she was pregnant with me. I don't know if it was leftover from her illness as a child or the treatment that cured her. I didn't think to ask. She was cured, and got her powers, from special serum combined with a genetic accelerator made by High Evolutionary. Mom tried a modified version of the treatment on me."

He rubs the back of his neck. "It didn't work, obviously, but it did give me my powers. To tell you the truth, I don't know why they're not the same as hers. All I know is that she's telling me stories about Spider-Man, and then when I came out of stasis, I had the strength, reflexes, wall-crawling, and organic webbing."
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: Excuse me?bluepurrymuffin on September 12th, 2011 08:07 pm (UTC)
"Ah." Drew. Yes, he supposed that did make quite a bit of sense.

This was quite a bit of information to take in, so he'd have to sort through it as he could to determine what would be most relevant to what they were doing today. "Now, I'm not entirely sure what sort of effect this process may have on other aspects of your blood, but it may be prudent to have a look at what we're working with to begin with, see if we can't isolate the source of your powers to ensure they won't be affected."

Fingers tapped against masked lips. "I didn't have the organic webbing at first, actually," he said thoughtfully. "I don't now, either. Gerry, have you ever had stingers? Or been able to communicate with invertebrates?"

He tilted his head slightly, looking to Hank. "I'm not sure if this is relevant, but -- it might be. A few years back I had a couple of ... scientifically hard-to-explain encounters --" meaning that in short succession he was impregnated with himself by an undying human-insect hybrid woman, killed by a mystical vampire, and resurrected by a Spider-God "-- and, well. I still don't really buy into the whole magical totem theory, but it's hard to ignore the organic webbing thing. If it weren't for Spider-Girl and the Spider-Woman here I'd propose the radiation alters the male and female genome differently, but both of them have powers more like mine than Jessica's, too."
Curtis Doyle || Freedom Ring: Victory!free_dumb_ring on September 13th, 2011 01:41 am (UTC)
Curtis just stood back and listened. He knew the story on Gerry's powers but the science stuff was going right over his head. He was still paying attention though, nodding along to the information.

"Right. So what tests do we need to do then?"
gerry drew (spider-man ii): [s] neckrubspiderfanboy on September 14th, 2011 01:16 am (UTC)
Gerry just shrugged, not really getting what Spider-Man meant this time around. "Spider-Girl having the same powers as you makes sense, though. I can't speak for the other Spider-Woman." He mentions Jessica with a hint of distance and unfamiliarity, since he wouldn't give away her identity to those that didn't know. "It was the serum combined with the accelerator that gave me my powers, the serum was a combination of different spiders' blood... I don't know much else about it. Mom and I don't share any powers, I only have yours, Spider-Man. I don't know why, unless I somehow willed them to be that way, but..." He trails off, that was a stupid idea.

"Look, what made me sick and want gave me powers are completely different, but if curing me takes away these abilities," He looks apologetically at them. "I'm not doing it."
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: I find myself brimming with thoughts.bluepurrymuffin on September 14th, 2011 07:20 pm (UTC)
Hank listens to what Spidey and Gerry tells him, and ruminates on it for a moment.

"Well, there's a good chance that it'll be nothing to worry about, but I'd like to run a few blood tests just to be absolutely sure."
Curtis Doyle || Freedom Ring: Loungefree_dumb_ring on September 16th, 2011 07:35 pm (UTC)
Curtis looks around at the others in the room then shrugs. Finding a place to sit, he leans back.

"So. Let's do the tests then," he suggests. "How long will they take?"
incywincyhero: spidey: what.incywincyhero on September 17th, 2011 11:02 pm (UTC)
Spidey blinks at Gerry's line about Spider-Girl, but keeps his peace. Hopefully Curtis and Dr. McCoy weren't paying too much attention to that part of his speech, though he knows Hank at least will hold the information close to his chest.

He tilts his head at the good doctor, waiting for his answer.
