WHO: Raven, Hank and eventually OPEN
WHERE: Xavier Institute
WHEN: Tuesday?
WARNINGS: None, I assume.
SUMMARY: Raven goes to check out the institute, finally, and meets with Hank. But she'll wander around some too, if anyone wants to run into her.
FORMAT: Para to start, then whatever.

Raven had been avoiding going to her 'brother's' institute, if only because the whole concept seemed strange to her. The 'school' back home was a handful of kids preparing to stop a war, not...kids going to math class. It was just such a strange leap, especially given that her brother had never been here before, that she'd decided...not to worry about it.

Still, Hank had suggested she come. And the possibility of a job that wasn't waitressing was...very tempting. She'd never liked waitressing. She wasn't bad at it, of course, but still. She'd never liked it.

So here she was, stepping through the front gate and walking up to the building, dressed in a pale blouse and a pair of slacks, her blonde hair looking as neat as she could get it...it was a job interview of a sort, wasn't it? She paused, not certain if she was supposed to knock, and then finally pushed the door open and stepped inside. Hmm...

Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: Oh hello!bluepurrymuffin on August 3rd, 2011 04:32 pm (UTC)
Hank made his way to the lobby as soon as he was informed of their visitor, it felt like only yesterday that he'd made a similar visit here. Not as many psychics to notice anyone at the door these days.

"Ms. Xavier, glad you could join us!"

There was a difference between seeing blue Hank on the phone, and blue Hank in person, and Raven was not entirely prepared for it. So there was a few seconds of surprised staring before she bobbed her head slightly at the greeting.

"Thank you. Raven is fine, though. It's nice to meet you...in person, I mean."
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: If you'll direct your attention here...bluepurrymuffin on August 3rd, 2011 06:04 pm (UTC)
"Of course, of course."

He knelt down to shake her hand. Sorry he's...kind of huge, Raven.

"Well then, Raven, is there anything you were particularly curious about seeing as we get started?"

Raven took his hand to shake it back, staring up at him. "You're...bigger than I expected." She said suddenly, and looked embarrassed about it after, at least.

"Sorry. Uhm. Nothing...specific. I'm just...I guess I'd like to see everything?" She was flailing now, verbally, and she drew her hand back after the shake and folded her arms to keep herself from actually flailing.
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: Can't be overly concerned at the moment!bluepurrymuffin on August 3rd, 2011 08:23 pm (UTC)
"You knew a younger alternate though, I've only been this size for a few more recent years. Personally, I expected you to be more...well, blue."

He gestured to the hallway. "Perhaps we should begin with the classrooms?"

Raven's eyes shifted away at his last comment and she frowned faintly. "Should I be? I usually...don't. Unless I'm at home. Does it matter here?" Raven wasn't generally comfortable being blue out, even if some part of her wanted to be.

She just nodded at the other question. "That sounds fine."
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoybluepurrymuffin on August 4th, 2011 09:07 am (UTC)
"This is meant to be a safe place, you should feel free to be whatever you're comfortable with. But if blue isn't that, you're under no obligation."

He led her further into the faculty building. "Are there any classes you're particularly interested in, by chance?"

Raven followed along, her mind a bit distant as she thought through the other things Beast had mentioned. "I liked English. And sometimes history." She paused after a moment, considering the hulking blue man, and then suddenly the transformation came over her in a wave. When it finished, she was dressed the same, but her skin was blue and scaly and she had bright red hair and yellow eyes.

"...Is this better?"
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: Most excellent! :3bluepurrymuffin on August 5th, 2011 06:42 am (UTC)
Hank's eyebrows perked up with a bit of surprise, but not too much. It wasn't for her appearance so much as that she actually felt comfortable enough. That meant something. "If it's better for you."

He took a turn down the hall. "English, then. If it may interest you, we actually have quite an extensive library! We could take a glance there first." Hank loved their library, any excuse to show it off was one he'd gladly take.

"I never go out...like this. I've been trying to relax about it, everyone keeps insisting it doesn't matter, but..." She shook her head and reached up to brush red hair back behind her ears. "It's a hard mindset to get out of. But if this is a school for mutants, I guess...it doesn't matter here." She smiled faintly, almost teasingly. "Plus you're giant and blue, you'll distract anyone from me."

She just nodded at his suggestion to see the library. Raven liked to read...not as much as Charles, but it was a necessary think to pick up when living with someone like her brother.
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: So it would seem.bluepurrymuffin on August 7th, 2011 03:14 am (UTC)
"Oh, I can certainly understand that one. It was at least a year after what happened to me before I could go out in public. I think I already mentioned my attempts at disguises." He shrugged and smiled. "But in case of emergency, you could certainly duck behind me, yes!"

He opened the door into the library and ushered her in. "Feel free to look around to your heart's content."

"When I was little I had to, before I learned how to use my powers. After that...I never did." She shrugged. "It didn't seem worth the risk. It still doesn't, really." She smiled up at him though. "You do seem to make a pretty good barricade."

She was used to libraries, but it was still impressive and she peered around for a moment or two before she smiled. "I think this would even make Charles impressed."
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: I find myself brimming with thoughts.bluepurrymuffin on August 8th, 2011 05:49 pm (UTC)
"I wouldn't stop the Juggernaut, but I'm sure I'd deflect the damage from you, at least!" A touch more seriously: "I can understand the impulse, though, especially when your power makes the disguise much simpler to manage! But I also believe everyone deserves a place where they can relax, let the
masks fall where they will."

He moved over to a certain section of the library. "I certainly was when I first visited, I hadn't seen a library quite like it since...well, the Institute at home." How long had it been now? A year and a half? "But Remus, he was the headmaster before me, he also owns a rare bookstore, so between that and Warren's money, it hasn't really been left wanting. We keep the first editions along that top shelf there!" It wasn't a small or empty or neglected shelf, either.

"Who is the Juggernaut?" Raven asked, her voice slightly absent as she walked around the library, looking at the titles. "I relax at home. Mostly around Charles. Or Tonks lately." She paused to study one of the books for a moment, and then finally turned to look over at Hank.

She stood slightly on her tiptoes to peer at the first editions for a moment, recognizing a number of titles before she sank back onto her heels. "So does the school just teach mutants?" A little pause. "Imports, I mean."
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: It's really quite simple.bluepurrymuffin on August 12th, 2011 06:03 am (UTC)
"Cain Marko. He made a deal with a magical entity and gained the ability to have an unending momentum, an irresistible force. Nothing could stop him, as the saying goes." He paused a moment before continuing, a little surprised at the difference with the next piece of information. "He was Charles' half-brother."

He glanced off to the side with a bit of a frown. "Well, that's our main purpose, of course, but some percentage of our students are indeed natives. A questionable choice on the part of this branch's founder, I've always thought, though the additions to the student body and faculty make some degree of sense from a logistical point of view."

Raven just looked puzzled at pretty much everything Hank said, at first, her yellow eyes narrowed slightly as she thought it over. "I guess...things really are very different back home than for you." She finally said as she slid a book off the shelf. Not a first edition, of course.

"Well there aren't a lot of imports, right? Especially not young imports. So wouldn't a school...any school, I guess...need more students to stay open?"
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: Might I just add...bluepurrymuffin on August 18th, 2011 10:42 pm (UTC)
Hank clasped his hands behind his back and watched as she perused the shelf. "A few teachers, as well. And that's the logistical perspective I was referring to."

Raven eventually turned back to Beast after she set the next book she was looking at back on the shelf. "Right." She said, her red hair shifting faintly as she considered the giant blue Hank who she only really knew a little bit.

"I am grateful for the idea of a job, you know. I just...I'm not sure I'm qualified. The only job I've ever had was waitressing, I didn't go to college which is apparently a thing everyone does now. Which is good! Just...leaves me a little behind."

She shrugged, not sure what to say. "I mean, it sounds tempting. Really. I'm just not sure what I can do."
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: Let me ask you...bluepurrymuffin on August 25th, 2011 09:36 pm (UTC)
"Well, you don't need to take a teaching position if you wouldn't be comfortable with that." He shrugs a little. "Though if you're main hesitation comes from your only experience being in waiting tables, there's only one way to hope for new experiences, and few employers who will give you the opportunity to find them."

He folded his hands together in front of him. "It's an option, at least. If you want to try something new, then we will find a placement. Perhaps you could even assist Angelica with the administration end of things!"

Raven didn't answer for a minute, her arms crossed, finger tapping absently on her forearm as she thought about it. And then she smiled. "Well, I'm interested, I'll admit."

"I would certainly like to try, at least. How would I, uh...get started?"
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: Big smile!bluepurrymuffin on August 30th, 2011 03:44 am (UTC)
"All depending on what you might like to do!" He said with a smile. "Have you met Angelica already? What we may be able to do is talk with her about what position she thinks we're in most need of, and go on from there."
if (defined or != "") { print "

"Yes, I've met Angelica." Raven smiled. "She was one of the first people I spoke to here, actually. And Pietro." She rolled her eyes when she mentioned Angie's husband.

"But that would work. And I'm sure I can muddle through things until I really understand it. I've always been...very good at that."
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: I'll explain this slowly.bluepurrymuffin on August 31st, 2011 07:25 am (UTC)
"Well, should you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! I'll be sure to let Angelica know you'll be joining the faculty as soon as we're finished here. Or perhaps we could speak with her in person once you've seen more of the school?"

He made a gesture toward the door. "On that topic..."
