it held the key to understand
WHO: The Avengers Science Division!
WHERE: Avengers Mansion
WHEN: Friday, starting around 2:30a and running through most of the day
WARNINGS: SCIENCE
SUMMARY: Hank has rallied the troops to find a solution to the hate-gas
FORMAT: uhhh

Hank flicked on the lights in the lab. First one there, of course, but everyone else should be on the way after he put out the call. He pulled a lab coat out of the closet and rolled up his sleeves.

It was time to get to work.

Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: Oh hello!

There was a knock at the door. When Hank went to open it, he'd see Spider-Man standing in front of him, slightly hunched and hugging himself, hands clenching and unclenching on his arms.

"Where do you need me, Doc?" he said, sounding tired.

"The examination table should be fine, if you'll please roll up your sleeve."

He headed to a cabinet and started fishing a few supplies out onto a tray. "Looks like you've had a rough day! Anything worth sharing about?"

"I --" Spidey started. "I got --" Third time's the charm. "Darkdevil and I had a ... disagreement."

He hopped onto the table while looking at the floor, refusing to make eye contact as he pulled off his glove and pushed up his sleeve. "He'll ... he'll be okay, I think. But that's when I realized something was wrong, I mean I'd never --"

He finally looked up, his very posture imploring. "You know I wouldn't ever go after a kid, or anyone, not if I was in my right mind. Right?"

Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: I'm not quite sure how to respond...bluepurrymuffin on March 5th, 2011 04:14 am (UTC)
"You and Reilly? Oh dear." He moved toward the table and set the tray off to the side. He walked up to Peter and knelt down to his eye level, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Are you alright? I know you'd never do something like this in normal circumstances, so there simply must be an outside agent involved."

He stood up straight and his tone changed from comforting to stern, certain. "I'm sure of it."

"Heya, fellas," Bobbi slipped into the lab, offering them a friendly nod. She was ready to get right down to work, the sooner they figured out all this nonsense, the better. "You didn't get started without m--" She frowned, quirking a brow at Peter. "Spider-Man, are you alright?"

Spidey had just been going to ask Beast how he'd ended up on first name basis with Darkdevil, not to mention the next most obvious question -- what else did he know about Reilly? Then Mockingbird walked in, and he was tempted to -- he didn't even know. Instead he sucked in a breath and bit his lip, hands gripping the table until it creaked in protest.

For a few long seconds he sat there, frozen, then breathed out and slumped.

"I think I've gotten a dose of whatever's setting people off," he said eventually. "Half the time I just feel a little on edge, almost normal, and the other half -- it's like I want to rip someone's head off."

He sighed and looked down at his hands, sheepishly brushing at the splinters and indents he'd made in the table.

Hank turned his attention to the door when she entered. "Ah, glad you're here, Bobbi. We hadn't quite begun, but we were just about to."

He frowned at the damage to the table, but moved back to his tray to get a syringe ready. "I'm sorry to say it, Spidey, but it would probably be wisest if you stayed here with us until we have this issue solved. Wouldn't hurt to have a keen mind like yours assisting the process, anyway."
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: SCIENCE is the only solution for this!

Bob was there, standing with his shoulders back in a much more assertive posture than he'd had any of the other recent Avengers get-togethers. But this was a different circumstance. He could input more, here.

"Hi, Hank," he said, brushing his hair behind his ear. "I'm ready to get started."
Dr. Henry Phillip McCoy: Oh hello!bluepurrymuffin on March 7th, 2011 07:46 am (UTC)
He looked up from what he was working on to see the other man there. "Bob! Glad you could make it. I've got just the thing for you."

Hank stood up and approached him, hands clasped in front of him. "We're beginning to understand the nature of the malady, and may have a solution to it before long. The only matter is we'll need a method to dispense it in mass amounts. The original chemical seems to have been delivered via gas, and the counteragent will likely be in the same form, so we need something to send that gas all over the City! And if we can clean the existing gas from the City skies while we're at it, all the better!"

He turned to Spider-Man. "I'd imagine you may have some valuable input on this as well, Webhead. So what do you say, think the two of you could handle that?"
